Will we see supersonic passenger travel again in our lifetimes? There’s hope!
Very exciting to see that the Boom, XB-1, demonstrator aircraft, a smaller proof of concept airplane, to test out their technologies and the, hopefully nonexistent, affects of sonic booms, took flight!
I cannot wait to ride in a supersonic passenger jet. Flying faster than speed of sound, Mach 1, or multiples thereof. I had an opportunity to use miles to get an award ticket in the early 2000s, to fly Concorde. Like an idiot, I assumed it would always be there, and decided I should save my miles and fly it later. Sadly, it stopped flying in 2003.
Much like how SpaceX is dominating in the world of space flight, I cannot wait to see who is the SpaceX of supersonic travel. (Now that I think about it, I think there is talk of SpaceX’s Starship being used for supersonic transport too!)
Boom and a number of others like Hermeus, https://www.spikeaerospace.com/, are also in the race. Hermeus is working on a hypersonic aircraft, traveling over 5x the speed of sound, 3800 miles per hour (61,155 kph!). It’s an exciting time to be alive!

Check it out here.
